Design Engineer
Solid State Logic - September 1986 to July 1988
SSL is a leading worldwide supplier of audio recording and mixing consoles to the music, film and video markets.
Built the AES/EBU stereo and MADI 50 channel audio interfaces for the 01 Digital Production centre. The 01 was an integrated recorder, mixer and editor which was born from SSL's desire to get an early return from their investment
in developing digital consoles. The project was cancelled just after pre-production systems were demonstrated at
the 1987 Audio Engineering Society show in Paris.
Most of the 01 team subsequently joined Sony and designed the Oxford series of digital consoles.
Achievements
. Learned to be a passable digital hardware designer
. Built a 50 chip AES/EBU design which worked first time
. Learned to programme in 'C'
